The cogeneration boiler, a rapidly expanding system

First present in public or tertiary establishments with high energy consumption, the cogeneration system of boilers is developing more and more among individuals, even if we should rather speak of micro-cogeneration. In addition to the components of a condensing boiler, this system includes an electric motor and an alternator which produces electricity.

The cogeneration boiler, a hybrid solution

Rather expensive to buy, the cogeneration boiler has a good efficiency, and limits CO2 emissions by around 35% compared to conventional boilers. Its ability to generate electricity allows savings to be made quickly, thanks in particular to the tax credit granted. In addition, it is compact, but it is not easy to install.

Multiple connections

Being able to function as much with gas and wood as with fuel oil, it exists in a version intended for individuals. The micro-cogeneration or generator boiler can be installed on the wall or on the floor. Its connection to the heating circuit is the same as for a conventional boiler: hydraulic connections, natural gas and evacuation of combustion products. It must also be connected to the electricity meter of the public network, which allows the surplus energy produced to be sold to EDF, and to the electrical distribution table. Thus, installation by a specialized professional is recommended given the complexity of the implementation.
