A great diversity

There are very diverse models of all sizes. They are generally made of brick, the color and appearance of which vary, which makes it possible to combine them with practically all styles of architecture. You will also find kits of different "levels", that is to say that they can be made up of very elaborate elements - and the assembly work is then very succinct - or on the contrary of primary elements - and the construction is then close to that of a barbecue to build entirely.

Shelves and hood

A barbecue made of precast brick elements includes, in addition to the hearth, various compartments for the storage of logs and provisions, worktops and, optionally, a hood which improves the evacuation of smoke upwards. Some models are upgradeable, and we can therefore consider personalizing its installation.

Stop the fire!

Remember that a barbecue is dangerous not only because it can cause burns (do not allow children to approach it), but also because it may cause fire to shrubs or underbrush. It is therefore advisable to clean the surroundings well by eliminating branches and dry leaves.

"Evolutionary" barbecues

These models allow you to create your barbecue according to your needs, your tastes and also the space you have. You can place the worktop to the right or left of the fireplace, or even provide two worktops. Likewise, you have the option of creating additional shelves and compartments - or even integrating two fireplaces into the same construction. Explain your wishes to the seller who will provide you with the items you need.

Refractory mortar

The hearth, that is to say the horizontal element where the logs or charcoal burn, is most often made of metal or sometimes pre-built in refractory mortar. The other parts of the construction are not in contact with the fire and the refractory mortar (resistant to high temperature) is by no means essential. On the other hand, for certain models of barbecue in kit whose joints are not already shaped, it must be used, but this point is always specified on the manufacturer's instructions.

Refractory bricks

If you choose to build a barbecue not in kit but directly out of bricks, on plans which you will have drawn yourself, use refractory bricks for the whole of the construction and not only for the parts in contact with fire. This is not only necessary so that all the bricks are the same, but also because these elements have, in addition to great resistance to high temperatures, perfect resistance to frost and weathering.

Implantation

A barbecue is above all a "fire", on which food is cooked in a rudimentary way, say, Gauls or Indians. This is why it can be installed practically anywhere and there are hardly any constraints. However, care must be taken to place it in a sheltered position from the winds and, failing this, to orient it back to the prevailing wind. Similarly, choose the location so that the wind does not reduce the smoke towards the house or towards the terrace on which you take your outdoor meals. At the same time, avoid setting up your barbecue too far from the kitchen door, so as not to complicate the transport of food and utensils.
